LATIN AMERICAN CUISINE / FOOD LATIN

 

Latin American Cuisine is a mixed of different cuisines from all over the world.  Most of these influences came from colonization and some from warfare, for instance during WWII.  Some items included in Latin American Cuisine are maize-based dishes (e.g. tortilla or tamales) and different salsas (spicy sauce that is made of finely chopped vegetables) and additional condiments.  These spices give Latin American cuisine a distinct taste. 

Furthermore, beverages of Latin America are distinct as their foods; some drinks are even date back to the Native Americans era.  An example of their famous beverages include mate (is a combination containing stimulants like caffeine), atole (it is a traditional cornstarch hot drink that is also known as atol in Central America) and chicha (it is a Spanish word that means any variety of fermented beverage).

Additionally, when it comes to their desserts, generally it is very sweet for example dulce de leche -it is a milk based syrup or milk candy in Portuguese, alfajor - a traditional cookie that is popular in Peru and teja- a dumpling shaped confection that contains manjar blanco filling or dry fruits and nuts.

Latin American is a very diverse region of land, which holds a mixture of cuisines that vary from country to country.  Traditional Latin food is full of flavors and is known for having too much salt or sugar, to enjoy Latin food to the fullest just make a little change of its ingredients and cooking technique without missing its traditional tastes. 

Many non-Latinos might think that Latin Food is all about hot and spicy it is by no means the norm.  Latin food ranges from piquant Mexican cuisine to the classy balance of Chilean cuisines to the multicolored and savory sweet of Caribbean cookery.
